This past January, our box featured the incredible jams of Three Little Figs. If you were a lucky recipient, you either got Owner Liz Cowan’s Sparkling Nectarine or her Citrus & Smoked Salt jam. Cowan is bringing back the traditional methods of preserving fruits and vegetables, adding in modern touches like exotic spices, herbs, vinegar and even smoke. She uses copper pots and sustainable produce. The results are not only delicious, they make your sandwich game so much more interesting; your cheesecake situation an elevated art.
Head over to www.threelittlefigsjam.com and pick up a few of the Jam Singles. We love the bright, tart, sweet ones we included, but are also partial to her more savory flavors like French Onion Confit and Tomato Tapas Jam.
Cowan has her own recipe blog here, and we wanted to share one of her recipes on our site for the ultimate grilled cheese, plus one fantastic drink recipe we devised that also calls for a spoonful of jam.
Heat skillet to medium high heat. Butter the outside of both slices of bread. Spread the jam and add the cheese to one slice of bread and top with the other slice. Cook both sides until the bread is golden and crispy and cheese is melted.
In an ice-filled shaker, combine the gin, elderflower liqueur, marmalade and lemon juice. Shake hard for at least 20 seconds, to fully emulsify. Strain into the prepared glass and top with club soda.
