We feel strongly that music can take us places. It can take us outdoors, over miles of pavement on our urban runs or through miles of wilderness and beaches when we play.
But, music also takes us places emotionally. It can take us back in time to our teen years – to our first crush; our first car; our happiest moments. Stop and consider that your favorite playlist right now will someday remind you of this time … these moments, challenges, triumphs and heartaches. Kind of intense, right?
The means by which we enjoy music is one of our favorite things to explore in our boxes. We partnered with Stellé Audio for our April 2017 box to bring members their sleek and stylish approach to modern home audio.
Stellé Audio is a company built around closing the gap that often frustratingly exists between fashion and function in this realm.
The Stellé Audio Pillar produces 360-degree and works off of a rechargeable battery, with a life of 15 hours. You can connect it to your Bluetooth devices––meaning you can take that conference call while moving freely through your home––or set a podcast to wake you up from your tablet or Smartphone.
We sat down for a quick Q&A with Anna Perelman, one half of the husband-and-wife team that created Stellé Audio, to give you a glimpse into what makes this company such a cool addition for our members.
What inspired you to start the company?
When my husband and I got married, he had very expensive, five-foot speakers that he wanted to bring into our home, but I wouldn’t hear of it. I jokingly gave him an ultimatum … it’s either me or your speakers. We started looking for something that we could buy that could fulfill both of our needs — form and function. As a design-conscious female with years of experience within the consumer and entertainment Industry, I couldn’t believe what a struggle it was to find a high-quality audio product that wasn’t a complete eye sore.”
What specific roles do you and your husband play and how does that collaboration work?
Wayne and I work closely together on the thought process and conceiving the ideas. He specifically oversees product design and development, including the engineering, prototyping and manufacturing. My role includes bringing the vision to life through branding and marketing, and overseeing the sales component of the company. Our collaboration highlights each of our strengths, Wayne is very entrepreneurial, and has worked in consumer electronics industry for 20+ years. My background is from the corporate world where I enjoyed executive roles at companies like Walt Disney Studios and SONY Pictures Entertainment.
What do you predict is the biggest trend or upcoming trend for fashion technology?
Wearables, absolutely, but I think the conversation is going to quickly switch to improving wearables and how we can make them more fashionable. There is also a trend in the technology industry turning to the fashion industry for direction when veering from engineering mode, transforming products to be more design-focused.
What is the most important lesson you’ve learned from starting your own business?
The most important lesson I’ve learned from starting my own business is the importance of the team and how important building the right team is, especially when it’s your own. Also to check your ego at the door. Being forward thinking and flexible is critical, especially in the early stages of any start-up.
